Transforming a Neglected Oak Block Parquet in Louth, Lincolnshire.
We were called to a property in Louth Lincolnshire, where the clients had recently removed the carpet to reveal an oak block parquet floor throughout the downstairs area. The floor had been damaged over the years by alterations, including a new fireplace and a rear extension. Additionally, some parquet blocks had become loose and poorly reattached.
Our clients were unsure if the floor could be restored, but we assured them that with our expertise, it was possible.
The project involved removing the concrete sections, installing a damp-proof membrane (DPM), and laying a new subfloor. We then replaced the damaged parquet blocks with reclaimed ones, carefully matching the existing pattern.
The repair process was challenging due to the incorrect installation of some blocks, which resulted in uneven spacing. We addressed this by lifting and reinstalling the affected blocks, blending the pattern seamlessly.
The entire parquet floor was sanded multiple times to remove imperfections and create a smooth surface. We then applied a hardwax oil finish, which enhanced the wood's grain and provided a durable, low-maintenance coating.
As always, we included a complimentary cleaning and maintenance kit to ensure the floor's long-lasting beauty.
